Eagle Gold Mine Extension Project

Regulatory Process

Eagle Gold Mine Extension Project requires an Executive Committee screening under the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act. The Extension Project is currently in the Pre-submission Engagement phase of the Executive Committee screening process (YESAB Project No. 2022-0125).

Pre-submission Engagement (PSE) is a new mandatory phase for all projects that require an Executive Committee screening. The PSE process has specific timelines, which are set out in the Rules for Screenings Conducted by the Executive Committee.

The purpose of PSE is to bring interested and affected parties together to review project requirements well before a proponent submits a detailed Project Proposal to the Executive Committee for assessment. The PSE process helps identify gaps and issues of concern, define values and baseline information requirements, and ensure an efficient and effective screening process. The effectiveness of PSE relies on participation. PSE integrates the interests and information needs of affected First Nations and communities, government regulators, technical and Traditional Knowledge.

YESAB Pre-Submission Engagement Process:

Following the Screening the Executive Committee will issue its Screening Report either recommending project go ahead (subject to conditions, as applicable) or project not go ahead. If the project is allowed to proceed, Victoria Gold will require amendments to the current Quartz Mining Licence and Water Use Licence to incorporate Extension Project activities. Current expectations for the regulatory timeline required for the YESAA process and licences amendments is provided below.
